Give a F*ck , get a friend !

I believe my empathy is what allows me to engage in deep conversations and form meaningful connections with others. The key to meeting people and making those connections is simply about caring—just one single “fuck” is all it takes. You might find yourself miserable at a party, wishing for something to do or feeling the weight of loneliness. I promise, there’s someone nearby who’s willing to engage. Even if they’re just as miserable, miserable people often find comfort in each other’s company. I assure you, if you give at least one “fuck” about someone else’s day or what they might teach you, you’ll discover a world of conversation waiting for you.

Every interaction has the potential to teach you something. I say this from experience because I’ve learned through years of yapping that a single comment from another person can reveal insights about them, yourself, or the world around you. Sure, you might forget some conversations, and not all of them will touch your soul, but you can carry the lessons you learn with you. So take what you learn, process it, and consider how it fits into your life. If it doesn’t serve you, don’t hold onto it.

Remember that YOU HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON WITH EVERYONE!!!!! Look, I know making conversation can be awkward and downright cringe-worthy when we try to be authentic. But if people don’t like you for being your true self, they probably aren’t meant to be in your path long-term. Working in sales has taught me how to strike up conversations when I’m running on nothing but coffee and hope. You wouldn’t believe the random topics I’ve pulled out of my ass! Just yesterday, I was at Starbucks when a girl came up to me, saying she recognized my voice. She looked familiar, so I asked for clarity, and it turned out I had spoken to her at the mall, selling her a few products right before she was getting her first Brazilian wax! What a memorable day for her!

We started chatting about how painful the experience was likely going to be, and I couldn’t help but share some of my own horror stories about beauty treatments gone wrong. I mean, who doesn’t have a tale of a botched haircut or an eyebrow mishap, right? I reminded her that beauty is pain, and we both laughed at the absurdity of putting ourselves through these rituals. It was a moment of genuine connection, and I was just there, giving a fuck about how she felt before what was about to be a pretty intense experience.

At that moment, it didn’t matter if she thought my voice was annoying or if we were complete strangers. What mattered was that we both had shared a laugh, and I could tell she appreciated someone taking the time to chat and lighten her mood. It’s those little moments of relatability and compassion that can really make a difference, don’t you think?

We ended up exchanging socials and even sent a picture to her mom because that first interaction was full of laughter and new experiences. It was such a positive vibe, especially considering the whole ordeal of getting your hair freshly ripped out! It made enough of an impression for her to remember me and want to approach me in public.

Long story short, we talked at Starbucks for a while and made a genuine connection. We even introduced some of our friends to each other. It’s crazy how small the world is! This experience reminds me that I am authentic, memorable, and interesting. Keep in mind that while that feels good, it doesn’t define my worthiness; I know my value is inherent, regardless of how others perceive me. Our first encounter was still fun for both of us, even if she hadn’t approached me at Starbucks.

So, here’s the bottom line: giving a fuck is the key to unlocking genuine connections. It opens the door to shared experiences and laughter, creating bonds that can lighten even the heaviest of days. When you care enough to engage with others, you’ll find that the world feels a little smaller and a lot warmer. So go out there and give a fuck—it’s the best way to start a conversation and, who knows, maybe even make a friend!
