Some books just stay with you. Not because everyone agrees on them, but because they challenge, provoke, and resonate in totally different ways depending on who’s reading them.
That’s the fun part: two people can read the same story and walk away with completely different takeaways, shaped by their own experiences, values, and biases.
And honestly? A lot of these books are just fun to read. You don’t have to analyze them to enjoy them.
- The Fury by Alex Michaelides
This gripping thriller explores how intentions can blur the line between love and toxicity. It dives into the dark side of relationships where love twists into something dangerous. Amid the chaos, it reminds us that friendship can be the anchor we desperately need. If you’re interested in a story that probes the complexity of emotions and the ties that hold us together, this is the one.
- The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak
This novel is about the legacy we leave behind and how our choices shape the people around us. The twist is it is told from the point of view of a tree. Yes, a tree. Who knew trees could tell such a moving and detailed story? It will make you think about the mark you want to leave and maybe how to treat your houseplants better.
- The Pisces by Melissa Broder
This one is really for my girls and it is definitely not for everyone. It is fiction, sometimes steamy, and yes, it can get a little cringey at times. But beneath that, the exaggerated yet true themes of self worth, value, and sex really hit home. It pushes you to think about your relationship with yourself and how much you value who you are. If you are up for something raw, messy, and thought provoking, this one might spark some important conversations especially the ones you have alone.
- Foe by Ian Reid
This book lives in a morally grey area that made me pause and think. I won’t say why because it’s better experienced without spoilers. If you want to challenge your perceptions, this science fiction story is for you. It feels like Interstellar meets Don’t Worry Darling but much darker. Intense and thought-provoking, it will catch you off guard and stick with you.
- Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes
This book will make you truly reflect on yourself, how strong your boundaries are, what you accept from others, and the way you treat people. It is written in a uniquely creative style that keeps you completely engaged from start to finish. Just to give you a taste, here’s a quick quote: “Maybe I’m not like other people. Maybe I’m just too smart to be happy.”-CG
These books made me think, feel, and reflect and I hope at least one of them does the same for you. Let me know what you thought in the comments, or head over to my Instagram and vote in the poll. I want to hear from you!
