I am sure we have all had those childhood friends who somehow ended up being both the closest and the furthest people in our lives.
And no before anyone swipes up asking this is not about you. I just think there is way too much judgment around friendships which honestly is ridiculous.
We are adults now. We have insane schedules juggling work, school, life, WHATEVER ELSE – point is high maintenance friendships just do not work anymore.
I have had so many different kinds of friends.
I was the emo kid, the sporty kid , and I dabbled in a little bit of everything – except the art hoe phase. I never had the patience for that one.
But here is the thing, as you grow up cliques fade, labels do not matter, and you just naturally gravitate toward your people.
And honestly, I know I’m adulting at least somewhat correctly because I have friends I am proud to know. People who prioritize the things I want to prioritize, who inspire me just by living their lives.
Here is the truth: you become the people you hang around.
You start to absorb their behaviors and habits whether good or bad. So why not surround yourself with disgustingly successful people?
Your network is your net worth. It can open doors to new ideas, connections, jobs, and experiences you would never find on your own.
Here are a few things I look for in my friends maybe you should too:
Don’t Be A Shitty Person 🙂 — You naturally absorb attitudes and beliefs from your circle. If your friends are positive, motivated and growth focused you will become that too.
Challenge themselves at least in something — Friends who encourage your goals and hold you accountable make it easier to stay on track. Nobody wants to be friends with someone who cannot be accountable.
Have a goal maybe? — The energy around you affects your own drive. If your crew is energetic and ambitious you will feel that fire. If they are negative or complacent progress gets harder.
These are personal to me and you might disagree with some. I would rather be friends with people who choose to challenge themselves than those satisfied with standing still.
Now this does not mean cutting off all your old friends. If you have someone you love but have grown apart from, remember it might not be that they do not want to grow. They might not know how or have anyone to guide them. So try to help lift them up with you. But if they do not put in the effort for themselves, it is okay to set boundaries.
Remember to stay in good character and treat the people you love with kindness even if you don’t see eye to eye, it says more about you.
LOVE, P
